Designing for the elderly

Autonomous vehicles to benefit the elderly

Over the past summer I was able to work as a product development intern with the Global UX team at the Ford Motor Company.

As an intern, I was tasked with an exploration project in how we might utilize autonomous vehicles to benefit the elderly. I also volunteered and took part in many other projects that the Global UX team worked on.

While I'm not able to show too much of the work, I am free to talk about some of it in person!

The skills I utilized the most during this summer were: user testing, user interviews, surveys, focus groups, mobile interaction design, iteration, implementation, physical/space design, and service design.

With the exploration project, I was able to work independently with check-ins with my supervisor. I also organized team feedback sessions to gain more critiques. Getting an outside perspective was valuable for identifying any opportunity or insight I might have overlooked.

During my time here, I took full advantage of the various opportunities presented. In addition to attending intern events and workshops, I got involved in the office-wide hackathon and, with a team of four others, won second place.

Of course, I also made friends and got close to my team, making this summer very worthwile and enjoyable!
